Rajasthan HC Stays Govt Order on Sanganer Colony Regularisation

JAIPUR: On Wednesday, the Rajasthan High Court halted the implementation of an order from the urban development and housing (UDH) department issued on March 12, aimed at regularizing residential colonies established on land acquired by the Rajasthan Housing Board between B2 Bypass and Sanganer. This ruling came from a bench led by Justice SP Sharma and Justice Sanjeet Purohit during a public interest litigation (PIL) hearing.

“We argued that the UDH’s actions to regularize these colonies were intended for the development of roads and other facilities, but the High Court has stayed the UDH order. We will follow the government’s directives concerning this matter,” stated additional advocate general Manoj Kumar Sharma to TOI.

Sharma further informed the court that residents had inhabited the land for more than thirty years, prompting the government’s decision to regularize the colonies. He also requested additional time to respond to the PIL.

The PIL contended that significant areas of land between B2 Bypass and Sanganer had been acquired by the housing board, with awards granted to the occupants, yet possession was never taken.

During this period, powerful individuals allegedly took control of the land, establishing approximately 86 colonies and issuing society leases. The PIL claimed that regularizing this land would benefit these occupants unfairly and urged the court to halt the regularization process and remove encroachments from the land.
