Rajasthan HC Gives 3 Weeks to Clear Illegal Sanganer Colonies

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court has directed the Rajasthan Housing Board to act on the removal of 87 illegal colonies in Sanganer, giving them three weeks to comply with its previous order from August 20, 2025.

In a firm warning, the court stated that the housing board commissioner must appear in person if compliance is not achieved within the specified timeframe. This court order was made public on Wednesday.

The case gained attention from a petition by Public Against Corruption, which raised concerns about the state government’s order from March 12, 2025. This order aimed to regularize colonies built on land acquired by the housing board, which had been encroached upon by illegal occupants.

Poonam Chand Bhandari, the counsel for Public Against Corruption, noted that the high court’s August order required the housing board to promptly address encroachments, reclaim the land, and hold accountable the officials responsible for enabling these illegal actions.

Petitioners informed the court that six months had passed since the order, yet no significant actions had been taken. Ongoing construction activities were reported, suggesting inadequate intervention from officials.

Additionally, petitioners accused influential figures of capitalizing on the situation by disguising their activities as those of smaller occupants, indicating a failure by the housing board to enforce actions against these encroachments.

In light of the ongoing violations and inaction by the housing board, a petition for contempt proceedings against its officials was filed, prompting the court’s call for a timely response from the board.
