Punjab to Revise Banur Master Plan, Zone Agri Land for Homes

MOHALI: To promote urban development, the Punjab government plans to amend the Banur Master Plan, transforming extensive agricultural land into residential zones. This change is proposed for several villages within the Banur revenue estate and is currently open for public feedback.

The Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Punjab, has suggested modifications in the ‘Proposed Land Use Plan, Banur’, aiming to redesignate agricultural lands in villages such as Naugiari, Giga Majra, Hulka, Kalauli, Menda Majra, Mote Majra, Nadiali, Manakpur Kallar, Kurara, Tangori, Jhansli, and Sekhan Majra as residential.

According to sources in the directorate, the amendments will reorganize the township into four distinct residential zones and will be rolled out in phases. This initiative responds to numerous requests from gram panchayats and local villagers seeking reclassification of their lands for residential development.

The existing Banur Master Plan was established on May 25, 2010. However, due to accelerating urbanization and infrastructure enhancements in the area, the demand for residential zoning has surged dramatically.

Members of the public can submit feedback and objections regarding the proposed changes through the official PUDA website or at the following locations: Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Chief Administrator, GMADA, Senior Town Planner, Mohali, and District Town Planner, Mohali.

Officials noted that a final decision will follow after careful consideration of all feedback from stakeholders. These amendments are viewed as a vital step to manage rapid urban growth and address the increasing demand for residential space in and around Banur.
