PUNE: The office of settlement commissioner and director of land records, Maharashtra, has decided to digitise property records for more than 13,300 holdings spread across 785 hectares in Kharadi, officials told TOI on Monday. The property cards are expected to be uploaded on the Mahabhumi portal by the end of Aug or early Sept.
The project, part of Central govt’s ownership scheme launched in 2019, aims to streamline urban land management. In Pune district, it will be first implemented in Kharadi — now under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.
In Feb, the commissioner’s office mobilised around 60 officials from Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur districts to conduct door-to-door inquiries. The verification is being carried out using advanced tools, including drones, ETS machines, rovers, and specialised city survey software.
Settlement commissioner Suhas Dhivse told TOI that each case is being checked, and the process should finish by end of July. “The digital property cards are likely to be uploaded by Aug-Sept. We are doing the inquiry work at our office level and it should be completed soon.”
This is a mammoth task, but officials are on track to complete it by Augt-Sept, said Rajendra Gole, deputy director of urban land measurement. “Each property card will not only include the owner’s name but also the deed of declaration and the name of the housing society.”
Officials said the process, which would typically take two to three years, is being wrapped up in just four months due to the integration of technology. A pilot project, conducted with support from the National Informatics Centre, was successfully executed in Kharadi, with mapping completed and approved by PMC in just two months. The survey work received formal confirmation from the civic body in Nov last year. Specimen notices were issued to property holders in late Jan, marking the start of the verification phase.
The digital property cards will replace the traditional 7/12 extracts, which officials say will reduce the risk of land fraud and bring transparency to ownership records. Digital tax registers and ground control points are also being used to support verification.
“The department is prioritising the Kharadi region before moving on to similar surveys in 23 more villages recently brought under the municipal corporation limits,” Gole said. He said the digitisation would not only benefit property holders but also aid the civic administration in urban planning, taxation, infrastructure development, and disaster management through 3D GIS maps.
