BENGALURU: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the highly anticipated “Yellow Line” of the Bangalore Metro Rail, designed to alleviate traffic congestion across various bustling corridors linked to the city’s IT sector.
During the event, the Prime Minister rode the metro from RV Road (Ragigudda) to the Electronic City station and engaged with students onboard.
The Yellow Line spans over 19 kilometers from RV Road to Bommasandra and is a key part of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project, totaling approximately Rs 7,160 crore and featuring 16 stations, according to officials.
This new line will expand the operational metro rail network in Bengaluru to over 96 kilometers, benefiting a vast population in the area.
Officials stated that the new line aims to relieve congestion in major areas like Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.
Deputy CM D K Shivakumar mentioned that “three train sets” have arrived for the Yellow Line, with a fourth anticipated this month, allowing for three trains to operate at 25-minute intervals initially. The frequency is expected to improve to 10 minutes later.
As Modi’s convoy made its way to Ragigudda station from KSR Bengaluru (city) railway station, a large crowd lined the route, chanting “Modi, Modi” and showering petals, despite the rain. Modi acknowledged the crowd with waves from his car.
Among those present were Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
