Pimpri Chinchwad Offers Amnesty Scheme Until March 31

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has introduced an amnesty scheme for property tax defaulters to recover outstanding dues and enhance revenue for the last month of the 2025-26 financial year.

During a press conference, Mayor Ravi Landge announced that a 90% penalty waiver on principal tax arrears would be provided as part of this scheme. Taxpayers who settle their entire outstanding amount in one payment from March 1 to 31 will benefit from this offer.

A senior official from the PCMC reported that approximately 2.12 lakh property owners collectively owe Rs 1,394 crore to the municipal body, with potential penalties of around Rs 467 crore being waived under the plan. When asked if the scheme would be extended into the next year, the official stated that this decision is only for the current financial year, and any future continuation would be evaluated later.

This initiative came in response to requests from newly elected corporators during their first general body meeting, who advocated for a scheme similar to the one provided by Pune Municipal Corporation, which offers a 75% penalty waiver.

Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar clarified that the scheme applies to all property types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and open plots. After March 31, defaulters will have to pay the full outstanding amount, including penalties.

Mayor Landge emphasized that strict actions will be taken against those who do not settle their dues. He was accompanied by ruling party members and opposition leaders, indicating a consensus on the decision.
