NAVI MUMBAI: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced an extension of the deadline for property tax fine exemptions under the 90% amnesty scheme to September 15. The 90% rebate, which started on July 18, previously ended on August 15. As a result, the 75% rebate period has been updated to run from September 16 to September 30. Currently, property tax dues exceed 47% of the budgeted amount for 2025-26. The civic body is also offering a basic 5% tax discount for those who settle their 2025-26 taxes by August 31, with additional discounts of 2% for digital payments and 2% for property holders engaged in energy-saving, water recharge, solid waste management, and other environmentally friendly activities.
The four-tier amnesty scheme, initially set to conclude on September 20, was extended to September 30 by civic chief Mangesh Chitale. The scheme has been simplified, reducing the four rebate slabs to two: a 90% rebate from August 15 to September 15 and a 75% rebate from September 16 to September 30, eliminating the previously proposed 50% and 25% tiers.
According to a media release from the civic body, they have collected Rs 213 crores since July 18. PCMC’s budget stands at Rs 3,874 crores, with property tax outstanding reaching Rs 1,842 crores as of August 13, accounting for 47% of the budget. Deputy municipal commissioner for property tax, Swarup Kharage, urges taxpayers to clear their dues to take advantage of the scheme. A recent opposition-led protest has prompted discussions on potential tax reliefs. The Kharghar Colony Forum has encouraged property holders to hold off on payments in hopes of reducing the base rate.
