Over 75% Mihan PAPs Receive Developed Plots: Maharashtra CM

NAGPUR: On Wednesday, the state government updated the legislative council that the distribution of developed plots to eligible project-affected persons (PAPs) from the Mihan project in Nagpur district is ongoing, with over 75% having received their plots. In a written statement, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed that more than Rs 100 crore has been disbursed to 2,048 out of 2,701 affected individuals as part of employment assistance.

This information came in response to a question from MLCs Krupal Tumane, Manisha Kayande, and Hemant Patil, who noted that approximately 2,000 hectares of farmland in five villages across Nagpur and Hingna talukas were acquired in 1997 for the Mihan project. At the time, farmers were promised compensation, developed plots, and employment. The MLCs highlighted that by December 2025, many affected individuals had still not received the promised plots or jobs, with around 300 farmers lacking even basic compensation for land acquisition.

Fadnavis stated that compensation for land acquired from Kalukhi, Khapri, Telhara, Sumuthana, and Dahegaon villages was processed by the Nagpur collector’s office. These villages contributed 450.50 hectares, 425.57 hectares, 464.74 hectares, 108.86 hectares, and 405.21 hectares to the project, respectively.

For those who chose developed plots, a layout covering 77.73 hectares was established at Sumuthana in Hingna taluka. As per a government letter dated April 1, 2025, the process of executing lease agreements and distributing plots to the 360 eligible PAPs who opted for 12.5% developed plots is currently in progress for those who have paid development charges.

Regarding employment, Fadnavis indicated that the government is providing Rs 5 lakh each to project-affected individuals as a part of a rehabilitation grant. Out of the 2,701 affected persons, 2,048 have received this grant, totaling Rs 102.48 crore.

The government has also allocated a 5% reservation for Mihan project-affected individuals in all state government job advertisements. Those who declined the Rs 5 lakh grant, but possess a valid project-affected certificate, may apply for government positions according to their educational qualifications, experience, and skills.
