BHUBANESWAR: The housing and urban development department is taking steps to enhance the Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA). Specific tasks have been assigned to various government departments and agencies, along with deadlines for their completion. They have been asked to submit reports on their progress.
In a communication to the agencies, Satish Chandra Singh, Joint Secretary of the housing and urban development department, noted that a high-level meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, was held on June 17 to address the implementation of the RERA Act of 2016. The Chief Secretary plans to hold another review meeting soon. Singh has requested all departments to implement the earlier decisions and submit action taken reports promptly.
Reports were requested from the revenue and disaster management department, the general administration department, the town planning division within the housing and urban development department, and ORERA itself.
The town planning division has been instructed to ensure that the status of all project approvals is communicated to ORERA in a timely manner. To facilitate this, they are tasked with developing a digital tool for real-time data sharing, which is expected to be completed within 60 days.
Likewise, the revenue and disaster management department is to form a technical group to plan and implement the integration of ORERA 2.0 with the Bhulekh portal. This team will also facilitate access to the SUJOG portal to retrieve the list of approved real estate projects.
The housing and urban development department is responsible for issuing directives to urban local bodies to deploy enforcement squads to work with ORERA for executing orders under the Orissa Demands Recovery Act of 1962.
On June 5, ORERA had urged Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja to review an eight-point recommendation aimed at bolstering RERA Act implementation in Odisha. Following this recommendation, a review meeting was convened on June 17, resulting in specific assignments to various teams.
“Effective implementation of the RERA Act is crucial to protect homebuyers and regulate the real estate sector. Previously, developers and agents had a monopoly, but now improvements are underway,” said homebuyer Vikrant Swain.
