BHUBANESWAR: The state government has made a notable advancement in urban planning by approving the draft of Town Planning Scheme-8. This approval was publicized in the Odisha Gazette on Friday.
Covering an area of 560.86 acres in the Andharua and Daspur mouzas, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will execute the TP scheme. This initiative is a vital portion of the state’s urban growth strategy and includes the development of Bhubaneswar New City.
Originally declared on January 30, 2014, the intent for TP-8 was followed by a meeting with landowners on January 21 this year, and the draft plan was released on January 28. After extensively reviewing public feedback, the final draft was sent to the state government for approval on July 25.
As per the scheme, landowners will contribute 40% of their land for urban infrastructure, maintaining ownership of the remaining 60%. The project aims to provide robust infrastructure including roads ranging from 9 to 62 meters, alongside drainage, water supply, sewage, and electricity systems. This development is anticipated to enhance connectivity, livability, and significantly raise the market value of the retained land.
BDA Vice-chairman N. Thirumala Naik commended the progress in other town planning initiatives, stressing its significance. Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, along with Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, are closely monitoring the projects’ progress.
This town planning effort is a cornerstone of the ‘Samrudha Sahara’ program, which seeks to transform urban areas in Odisha into vibrant hubs of growth. It aligns with the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2010, aiming to establish a 64.9-kilometer ring road around Bhubaneswar development.
BDA is also planning to roll out TP schemes across various revenue villages along this ring road, instructing officials to hasten the implementation while ensuring top-tier urban infrastructure. This entire initiative is overseen by BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi and a dedicated team to ensure effective execution.
