Noida Techie Death: Two Builders Arrested

NOIDA: Two builders were arrested by Noida police on Thursday in relation to the death of a software engineer who drowned when his car fell into a waterlogged trench near a construction site in Sector 150.

“The detained individuals have been identified as Ravi Bansal from Faridabad and Sachin Karnwal from Ghaziabad,” a police official informed PTI.

According to the official, both are affiliated with real estate developer Lotus Greens, though their specific positions have yet to be verified.

The police made the arrests under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 106 (causing death by negligence), and 125 (endangerment to life or personal safety).

On the night of January 16-17, Yuvraj Mehta, 27, drowned in a waterlogged area, allegedly due to the negligence of the builder and its associates at the Lotus Greens construction site, stated the police.

Mehta, who worked as a software engineer in Gurugram, was returning home when his vehicle fell into a pit near the construction site. He reportedly remained trapped for nearly two hours, pleading for help before succumbing to the water.

An FIR was filed against Lotus Greens and MZ Wiztown Planners at the Knowledge Park Police Station after Mehta’s father lodged a complaint.

On Tuesday, the police took Abhay Kumar, director of MZ Wiztown Planners, into custody, and he was later placed in judicial custody on Wednesday, according to officials.

Additionally, a separate FIR was filed, naming five officials from both real estate companies, charging them with violating environmental regulations and negligence at the construction site.

A Special Investigation Team has been established by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the case, amid growing public outcry and claims of negligence on the part of the developers and the Noida Authority.
