KANPUR: District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh of Kanpur Nagar took decisive action on Friday regarding the sale of a valuable Nazul property in Civil Lines to a private builder. He issued a government re-entry order for plot no. 14/59A, Civil Lines, mandating that it be re-registered as unallocated government land.

The land was valued at roughly Rs 24.77 crore according to the current circle rate.

The situation came to light following a joint investigation by the sub-divisional magistrate (Sadar), the assistant officer in charge of Nazul, and the tehsildar (Sadar). They discovered that the nazul allottees had failed to pay the lease rent or renew their leases for several years, yet the land was sold to a third party without the necessary permission from the collector.

According to records, the plot located in Nazul Block-14 was initially allotted in 1982 to KC Beri, Tarang Beri, Neeraj Beri, and Vikas Beri. As stipulated in the Nazul Manual, leases for building purposes were restricted to a specific period, with mandatory renewals that were not pursued by the lessees.

The investigation further revealed that the heirs of Sita Beri executed a sale deed in favor of SA Builders Private Limited in 2012, falsely declaring the land as freehold, when no such evidence existed in government records.

The district magistrate emphasized that selling Nazul land without paying lease rent, renewing the lease, or obtaining collector permission constitutes a serious violation of regulations. This led to the illicit transfer and misuse of valuable government property in the city’s center.

Based on the Nazul Manual and government permissions, the district magistrate ordered government re-entry into the plot in the public interest.

As per the order, the land will be re-registered under government accounts, with shared maintenance and control responsibilities assigned to the assistant officer in charge (Nazul) and tehsildar (Sadar).
