NAGPUR: The state government has extended the special amnesty scheme for nazul lands leased for residential purposes in Nagpur and Amravati divisions for an additional year. An order from the revenue and forest departments on Tuesday announced the extension from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026.
This scheme affects around 12,000 nazul plots in Nagpur, with about 8,000 allocated for residential use, benefiting approximately 5,000 leaseholders in the city.
Under the scheme, leaseholders can convert nazul lands into freehold property at a reduced conversion fee. Although a June 2019 order allowed conversion at 5% of market value, the response was limited due to high costs. The special amnesty scheme initiated on March 16, 2024, has since lowered the fee to 2%.
In the previous year, 653 applications were approved, with over 1,000 still under review. Outstanding dues will incur a charge of 0.02%, and failure to clear dues by the end of the amnesty period will result in a 10% annual penalty.
Officials stated that the extension provides leaseholders another chance to apply for conversion under the scheme.
