SURAT: The Navsari Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated a crackdown on illegal constructions, issuing notices to 40 sites—both commercial and residential—that lacked valid permits.
In the last week, the NMC’s town planning department evaluated around 200 under-construction sites, identifying 40 that failed to obtain necessary approvals. These sites are required to submit valid construction documents within five days, with officials cautioning that structures without permissions could face demolition.
This marks the first significant enforcement action since Navsari became a municipal corporation. The city is now divided into 13 wards, with elections anticipated soon.
Ward-10 reported the highest number of suspected unauthorized constructions, totaling seven sites, followed by six each in Ward-1 and Ward-2. Notices were also issued to one building in Eru and two each in the villages of Dharagiri and Tighra.
Municipal Commissioner Dev Chaudhary told TOI, “The buildings served notices were unable to provide essential documents such as sanctioned building plans, development permissions, or construction approvals from the relevant authority. We have requested the owners to submit these documents within five days to avoid legal action. Our assessment of the 200 under-construction sites will continue.”
In addition to construction approvals, owners and developers must submit layout plans, city survey numbers, 7/12 extracts, and others to validate the legality of their projects.
