NAVI MUMBAI: Kailas Shinde, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, has launched the ‘Property Identity Card’ initiative, positioning Navi Mumbai as the first municipal corporation in India to offer these cards to property owners. The NMMC reports that this initiative will benefit over 350,000 property holders by providing centralized access to essential information such as property number, address, area, and tax details, akin to a PAN card.
Shinde recently distributed the property identification cards to five property owners at an event. The card allows owners to view their property tax due and advance tax amounts, facilitating direct payments at civic utility centers when presented. Furthermore, it supports online tax payments through a QR code, serving as an official property identity, similar to an Aadhaar card.
This initiative aims to simplify property sales and transfers, reducing time and costs associated with engaging the Property Tax Department. Emphasizing digitalization, Shinde aims to enhance transparency and efficiency within the property tax department for the tech-savvy residents of Navi Mumbai, known for its educated population.
Shinde proudly stated, “Being the first municipal corporation in the country to provide ‘Property Identity Cards’ to its citizens is another feather in the cap of Navi Mumbai. A comprehensive survey was conducted to collect and verify information about property holders before the preparation of these cards.” Self-help groups assisted in this survey and began distributing property tax bills.
