MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to open on October 8, as announced by Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Wednesday.
The airport recently received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday and is being developed in multiple phases by Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd. The Adani Group holds a 74% stake, while the Maharashtra government’s CIDCO has the remaining 26%.
“In preparation for the opening of Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8, I had the honor of meeting with our diverse team, including construction workers, women staff, engineers, artisans, firefighters, and security personnel, who made this project possible,” Adani shared in a post on X.
“I experienced the essence of this extraordinary project—a landmark forged by countless hands and hearts. As millions of flights take off and billions traverse these halls, the spirit of these individuals will resonate with every departure and every footstep. My deepest thanks to them,” he remarked in his post.
He also included a video of his visit to the airport and interactions with the team there.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport will be the second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with the airport code ‘NMI’. The project is divided into five phases.
When fully operational, the airport will cater to 90 million passengers and handle 3.2 million metric tons of cargo annually, positioning it as one of the largest aviation hubs in Asia.
Currently, India has 162 operational airports, according to the latest data from the Civil Aviation Ministry.
