NASHIK: In an effort to enhance the city’s infrastructure and environment, the municipal corporation has announced the establishment of a new urban design cell. This initiative aims to uphold Nashik’s aesthetic values while improving urban planning and design.
The cell will focus on various urban development aspects, including mapping infrastructure, promoting walkability, and creating plans for better urban spaces.
Climate action will be a key component of this initiative.
The urban design cell will be led by Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri and will include notable members such as:
- The Deputy Director of Town Planning
- City Heritage Expert Smita Kasar
- Experienced Architect Bhalchandra Wavre
- Structural Engineer Deepak Kulkarni
- Senior Citizen Kiran Chavan, who specializes in city beautification
- The Assistant Director of Town Planning at NMC
The proposal for this urban design cell is set to be presented at the forthcoming meeting of the NMC’s general body next week, awaiting approval.
NMC officials indicate that this initiative is part of a broader plan to ensure that growing urban areas retain their cultural and architectural heritage while supporting expansion. The cell will aim to enhance streetscapes, foster pedestrian-friendly designs, and preserve Nashik’s distinct identity.
This initiative is in line with directives from the Urban Development Department of the state government, promoting the integration of technology and data-driven strategies for efficient and sustainable urban development.
