NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) have announced progress in addressing the transfer of Developmental Rights (TDR) to developers. This initiative is aimed at promoting affordable housing for lower-income groups and economically weaker sections (EWS).
A meeting held on Tuesday evening between NMC and Mhada officials confirmed this development. Shivkumar Awalkanthe, Chief Officer of Nashik Mhada, stated, “The civic administration will provide TDR for the plots given to us, and we will reciprocate for NMC.”
Officials from Mhada indicated that builders developing plots exceeding 4,000 sqm are required to allocate 20% of that area for affordable housing. Mhada will manage these plots and provide funds to the developers in return. “We currently lack the funds to acquire land. Even if we purchased land, Mhada wouldn’t be able to supply affordable housing. Hence, it was critical for us to request TDR from NMC. In our meeting, we agreed that the builder and Mhada would sign a contract for plot handover. We would then coordinate with NMC to issue TDR and take over the plot,” Awalkanthe elaborated.
Additionally, the meeting also tackled the resolution of issues concerning 88 developmental plots over 4,000 sq meters that required a 20% affordable housing reservation since 2013. “These will be assigned to Mhada for constructing affordable housing for those in need. Some data was shared previously, and the remaining information will be provided soon,” an official remarked.
