NASHIK: The civic body has reported an 8% increase in property tax collections for the first eight months of the financial year 2025-26, totaling Rs 196 crore from April 1 to December 4, compared to Rs 181 crore during the same timeframe last year (2024-25).
According to officials from the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), the Cidco division led the collections with Rs 42.8 crore, followed by Panchavati at Rs 39.3 crore, Nashik East at Rs 33 crore, and Nashik West at Rs 30.7 crore. The remainder of the collections originated from Nashik Road and Satpur divisions.
NMC set a property tax collection target of Rs 275 crore for the current financial year and achieved 71% of this goal in the first eight months. To meet the target, it still needs to collect an additional Rs 79 crore.
Officials credited the increase in collections to a concession scheme offering a 3-8% discount for timely annual property tax payments, resulting in Rs 111 crore collected during the April-July period.
An amnesty program for defaulters was implemented from September 1 to December 31, granting up to a 95% waiver on penalties for settling all dues between September 1 and October 31, and an 85% waiver in November. During this September-November period, NMC collected Rs 56 crore from defaulters. The property tax department also imposed a 2% monthly penalty on unpaid taxes and recovered costs related to notices and warrants issued to defaulters.
NMC currently has outstanding dues of Rs 400 crore from tax defaulters and plans to take action against them following the conclusion of the amnesty scheme.
