NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has achieved significant progress in its property tax collection for the fiscal year, gathering Rs 111 crore from April to July. This amount accounts for 41% of the target of Rs 275 crore set for the 2025-26 financial year.
An NMC representative noted that the positive outcomes are attributed to a new rebate plan. This initiative features discounts ranging from 3% to 8% intended to encourage prompt payment. An 8% rebate was available for those who paid their entire annual property tax in April and May, while the percentage decreased to 6% for payments made in June and 3% for payments settled in July.
As an added incentive, the NMC also offered an extra 1% discount to taxpayers who chose to pay their full property tax online during these periods of reduced rates. “This initiative promoted digital payments while rewarding timely submissions,” explained an official from the municipality.
It’s important to note that during the same period last year (April to June), the civic body collected Rs 114 crore. “In the previous year, we reached out to taxpayers via messages to promote the tax rebate benefits. Our property tax employees also visited homes to explain the concession program. This year, however, we didn’t send messages since three private agencies were engaged to manage the distribution of property tax bills across six divisions,” the official added.
In the last financial year (2024-25), the NMC successfully collected Rs 256 crore in property tax, exceeding their target of Rs 250 crore.
