Nagpur: Mhada Alleges ₹1.39 Crore Fraud by Private Firm Director

NAGPUR: The Sitabuldi police have initiated a cheating case against Bhupendra Chandrikapure, the director of a private firm engaged by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) in October 2022 for selling unsold flats built under its schemes.

The complaint, lodged by the deputy chief officer of the Nagpur Housing and Area Development Board, claims that Chandrikapure had no authorization to directly collect money from buyers. Nonetheless, between October 2022 and July 2025, he allegedly gathered significant sums from 44 beneficiaries by promising flats and home loans and charging additional fees for electricity connections and other amenities.

The victims neither received their flats nor were reimbursed, leading to misappropriation of Rs 1.39 crore for personal benefit, which caused substantial loss to both the beneficiaries and Mhada. The police have filed charges against Chandrikapure for cheating, and further investigation is in progress.
