MoU to Provide Energy-Efficient Appliances to 500K PMAY Homes in AP

VISAKHAPATNAM: Marking a significant milestone in energy efficiency under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited (APSHCL) has partnered with EESL and AP SEEDCO to create a tripartite MoU aimed at providing energy-efficient, star-rated appliances to five lakh beneficiaries during the first phase.

The MoU was initially signed at India Energy Week (IEW) 2026 in Goa and was formally exchanged on Monday in Naidupeta, attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Housing Minister K Parthasarathy, and Municipal and Urban Development Minister K Narayana.

Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary (Housing) Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary (MA&UD) S Suresh Kumar, and APSHCL Managing Director Arun Babu, exchanged the official documents with EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit and CGM Animesh Mishra.

During the event, Naidu voiced support for the Union government’s initiative for a people-led national movement centered on energy efficiency and renewable energy. He affirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring permanent housing for all eligible households by 2029.

“As a responsible government focused on sustainable economic growth and combating climate change, we are eager to make these households under PMAY energy-efficient with the active participation of the beneficiaries. This initiative will enhance living standards and lead to financial savings,” stated the Chief Minister.

Ajay Jain characterized the initiative as a pivotal step in India’s sustainable housing efforts, emphasizing its transformative benefits. Through this program, conventional fixtures in PMAY homes will be replaced with energy-efficient appliances.

EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit referred to the initiative as a national milestone, commending Andhra Pradesh for establishing a powerful benchmark in achieving sustainable housing on a large scale.

This initiative is expected to reduce annual CO₂ emissions by 456.61 kg.
