MOHALI: In a significant initiative to reshape Mohali’s urban environment, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has called for Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for the development of the Aerotropolis City project, which encompasses 5,500 acres near Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.

This development comes after the project received environmental clearance from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, clearing the last obstacle to commence physical development. The decision to start inviting bids was made by the secretary of housing following years of delays.

According to GMADA officials, the Aerotropolis will be developed in phases, with the initial phase targeting 1,650 acres, including 927 acres in pockets B, C, and D, while Pocket A is currently entangled in legal disputes related to the guava scam.

Development tasks, such as grid road construction, sewer and drainage pipeline installation, and the creation of a tertiary water system and underground power cable network, have been contracted to M/s SBEIPL-HRG (JV). The completion of these works is aimed for April 2026.

Describing the Aerotropolis as a flagship venture, GMADA officials indicated that the project will provide residential, commercial, and institutional areas integrated with modern infrastructure. The contractor is responsible for implementing major services—civil, public health, and electrical—coordinately to ensure seamless development.

A senior GMADA official stated, “This will be one of GMADA’s premier townships. All amenities will be developed simultaneously to avoid delays and disorganized planning. The goal is to create a nature-friendly, luxurious environment infused with modern urban elegance.”

Through the Aerotropolis, GMADA aspires to establish a contemporary, integrated township that balances urban convenience with natural beauty. Positioned between existing Aero City and IT City developments, the project is set to become one of the most desirable locations for living and business in the region.

The GMADA chief administrator explained, “Our vision is to offer a forward-thinking living space that aligns with the evolving aspirations of urban Punjab.”
