MOHALI: Residents from Sectors 123, 124, and 125 have united to push for the long-delayed 200ft Master Plan Road from Dara Studio to Khanpur. Protesting under the 200 Ft Master Plan Road Sangharsh Committee on Sunday, they threatened to escalate their efforts if the government does not initiate construction.

Chanting ‘No Road, No Vote’, the Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) voiced their frustration, stating that thousands of families feel “stranded and cheated” after investing their life savings in homes and commercial properties, with the expectation that a crucial arterial road would be built as outlined in the GMADA master plan.

Over 12 housing societies, including Global City, Pallazo Homes, Paul Homez, Kendriya Vihar 1 & 2, Star Homez, Nav City, and Shiwalik Avenue, have planned a series of protest meetings and awareness initiatives in the weeks ahead.

Maninder Preet Singh, president of the Sangharsh Committee, emphasized that more than 20,000 families are directly affected. “Property dealers and builders marketed homes and showrooms by emphasizing the 200ft Master Plan Road as a vital connection. Years have passed; homes have been built and communities established, yet this promised road remains non-existent. Residents feel betrayed.”

Antar Singh Brar, committee general secretary, noted that the road was proposed prior to the Kharar flyover, which is now operational. “This master plan road, intended to serve as an alternate route and relieve congestion in the area, has never materialized.”

Currently, the sectors rely on narrow 20-25ft internal roads, resulting in severe traffic congestion. Residents report that these damaged approach roads are accident-prone, frequently cause vehicle breakdowns, and raise health concerns due to dust and pollution.
