MOHALI: The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has launched its 50th affordable housing project, introducing a revised layout plan for a new residential plotted colony spanning 25 acres in Sector 114, village Kailon, Tehsil Mohali. Dubbed “White City,” this initiative is being developed by a private company, according to GMADA officials.

A public notice regarding the updated layout has been issued by GMADA, inviting interest from potential buyers and stakeholders.

Over the years, Mohali has seen a consistent increase in affordable housing developments, driven both by GMADA and private developers. Areas like Kharar, Banur, and sectors such as 74-A, 115, and 116 have become significant hubs for these projects. Currently, the city boasts over 50 affordable residential colonies and nearly 1,000 plots sanctioned by the authority.

GMADA Chief Administrator Sakshi Sawhney emphasized that the Punjab government is actively supporting affordable housing schemes to enhance access to home ownership. She noted that these initiatives are designed to help lower- and middle-income individuals acquire residential properties at reasonable prices. Furthermore, she mentioned that GMADA has successfully developed 50 affordable plotted colonies across multiple sectors.

In Mohali, a variety of affordable housing options are available, including both plotted developments and group housing projects. Some prominent locations offering such choices are Green Residency (Kharar), RBC Group Happy Home (Sector 115), Lok Awas (Sector 74-A), and Khanpur. These projects range from gated communities to group housing schemes, including Wave Estate Group Housing and various initiatives for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) led by GMADA.

In terms of cost, affordable apartments in Mohali typically range from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 45 lakh, while prices for plotted developments can vary based on size and location. Authorities advise prospective buyers to confirm project approvals before making investments and to prioritize GMADA-approved colonies in sectors such as 78, 79, 80, 88, and 89 for legal assurance and secure transactions.
