MOHALI: The district administration conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Naya Gaon on Monday, adhering to high court directives aimed at removing unauthorized constructions in the Kansal catchment area of Sukhna Lake.
The operation was overseen by the designated nodal officer and involved teams from AME, the building inspector, general inspector, and the executive officer. Police, including the Naya Gaon SHO, were present to maintain order during the action.
Officials indicated that the enforcement teams targeted structures built in violation of court orders, particularly around Patiala Ki Rao and parts of Shivalik Vihar. These areas are within the restricted Kansal catchment and floodplain zones, where construction activities are tightly regulated due to ecological concerns and drainage functionalities linked to Sukhna Lake.
Authorities noted that several warnings had already been issued to violators, allowing them time to comply with regulations. However, multiple structures were found in violation of land use norms and environmental protections, with some obstructing natural drainage channels.
The demolition and removal processes were carried out systematically, highlighting that enforcement became necessary due to ongoing non-compliance despite numerous alerts.
The administration reiterated that unauthorized construction is strictly prohibited in the Kansal catchment area, along Patiala Ki Rao, and other protected zones. It warned that future violations of high court orders will result in severe penalties.
Residents and property owners were urged to follow approved building plans and comply with building and environmental regulations. The administration remains dedicated to safeguarding the Sukhna Lake catchment and enforcing relevant laws for the public good.
