MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has initiated a campaign aimed at enhancing property tax collection to boost revenue. A campaign vehicle was launched recently to facilitate drives for collecting overdue payments.
MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik announced that the Self-Assessment Scheme (SAS) property tax will experience a 3% increase in accordance with government regulations. He urged residents to pay their property taxes punctually each year. The MCC raises property tax annually by 3% based on the market value set for 2023-24. For the fiscal year 2025-26, as directed by the administrator and Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV, this increase will continue, the commissioner confirmed.
Naik explained that property owners can pay their taxes from home without needing to visit the MCC office. “You can conveniently pay online or visit Karnataka One centers. Timely payment of property taxes allows the MCC to undertake various development projects in the city. We encourage residents to collaborate with the MCC for the city’s overall growth,” he stated.
He further mentioned that many property owners have outstanding dues from previous years. The city corporation will start a campaign to recover these debts.
“To avoid legal action, it is crucial for people to clear previous dues as soon as possible,” he cautioned.
According to officials, Mangaluru has approximately 220,000 properties spread over 60 wards, with variations due to new additions and removals. The corporation commenced a ward-wise survey in early January to determine the exact number of properties and improve revenue collection.
