MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has approved a Rs 1,732 crore initiative to modernize land survey operations and enhance infrastructure for the revenue and land records departments.

Under this plan, Rs 132 crore will be designated for acquiring 1,200 advanced rovers to improve land measurement efficiency as part of the e-Survey 2.0 project.

Furthermore, Rs 1,600 crore has been allocated for the construction of new office buildings and residential accommodations for revenue officials, as per a statement from Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s office.

This decision was made during a high-level meeting led by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar at the state secretariat. Bawankule, who suggested the upgrades, emphasized that the new rovers will greatly expedite land survey operations.

The government plans to acquire a total of 4,000 rovers, with the first batch of 1,200 expected to be procured promptly.

These rovers will enable the timely delivery of digital ‘C’ copies of land maps to citizens, according to the statement.

Bawankule also pointed out the necessity for high-performance vehicles for district collectors, deputy collectors, and tehsildars, especially to assist in combating sand mafias.

He proposed situating land records offices near collectorates to streamline operations.

Pawar has sanctioned Rs 1,500 crore for new revenue offices and an additional Rs 100 crore for enhancing facilities in the land records department. He instructed that the rover procurement process commence without delay.

With the rollout of e-Survey 2.0 in Maharashtra, citizens are now receiving land survey maps (‘C’ copies) digitally. The introduction of the initial 1,200 rovers will enhance both the speed and precision of this initiative.

Instructions were also given to complete the pending Registration Bhavan project in Pune within this month.
