LUDHIANA: On Thursday, the Municipal Corporation (MC) intensified its efforts against illegal constructions by sealing six commercial buildings throughout the city. This action was executed by the building branch under the guidance of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal. Officials reported that two of the sealed structures were on Barewal Road, two on 200 Feet Road, and one each on Magnet Resort Road and Ferozepur Road.
Assistant Town Planner Harvinder Singh Honey stated that these measures followed the owners’ failure to settle outstanding dues, including Change of Land Use (CLU) charges. He advised residents to obtain approved building plans from the municipal corporation before commencing any construction, warning that those who violate building regulations would face stringent penalties.
In another situation, Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Sidhu intervened to stop the MC team from removing roadside vendors on Model Town Road near the Children’s Traffic Park. Sidhu contended that the civic body should either stop issuing receipts to vendors or refrain from dismantling their carts. As a result of his intervention, the MC teams withdrew. However, municipal officials clarified that the receipts were meant for moving vendors, not stationary ones, and stated they would return another day to address the encroachments.
