LUDHIANA: The municipal corporation (MC) has initiated a strong crackdown on unauthorized constructions and outstanding fees, sealing six buildings across the city on Tuesday after the owners did not comply with requests for pending payments and the correction of illegal structures.
This action was taken following strict orders from MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, who recently admonished officials to expedite the collection of civic dues and enforce stringent measures against illegal constructions, warning that non-compliance could lead to disciplinary measures against them.
The sealing operation was carried out by the MC Zone D building branch, targeting several prominent locations, including a structure on Malhar Road, two in BRS Nagar, two buildings (including a hotel) on Ferozepur Road, and another on Dugri Road.
Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh confirmed that the owners had failed to pay multiple dues, including Change of Land Use (CLU) charges, and were found to have built unauthorized structures. The owners of the sealed buildings have been formally instructed to settle all outstanding fees with the civic body.
MC officials indicated that efforts to tackle illegal constructions and recover outstanding fees will intensify in the upcoming days. The corporation also appealed to residents, urging them to begin construction only after obtaining the necessary approvals for building plans. Officials warned that any construction initiated without municipal approval will face immediate and severe penalties.
