KOCHI: Housing reconstruction has officially commenced in the Shanthipuram Colony, located in the 44th division of Kochi corporation, Karanakodam. The project aims to build new homes for 197 families, funded by Life Mission and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The current houses are dilapidated and insecure. “One of the long-term objectives of the municipality is to provide residents with safe and secure homes, as outlined in our budget. Under the guidance of the Azadi Group’s Architecture Engineering College, plans have been created for apartment complexes containing eight units each, across three cents,” stated Mayor M. Anilkumar.
“The estimated cost to construct a single house is Rs 10 lakh. Unfortunately, the maximum financial support available per family under the LIFE scheme is Rs 4 lakh, leaving a gap of Rs 6 lakh that we need to address. We have secured Rs 1 crore in CSR funds from BPCL Kochi Refinery and Rs 50 lakh from Sobha Group to help bridge this gap. Construction for Phase I will begin shortly,” Anilkumar added.
“Division councillor George Nanat has also played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition,” he noted.
