KOCHI: Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is planning to extend its Phase II pink line to the Kizhakkambalam area, where Infopark aims to establish its Phase III campus. The IT Park officials have informed that they’ve completed initial discussions with KMRL regarding this extension.
The work on the pink line is currently underway, with KMRL targeting completion by 2026. The existing plan terminates the line near Infopark’s Phase I campus.
Infopark CEO Sushanth Kurunthil stated, “We are prioritizing Metro connectivity for our Phase III project, as this integrated township is set to be one of the largest infrastructure developments in the state. We anticipate that at least 200,000 people will be employed in the township, with an additional 400,000 associated with the campus, making transportation facilities essential. KMRL has assured us that they will consider extending the Metro line to the Phase III campus during our discussions.”
Kurunthil further mentioned that subsequent talks on the line’s extension would take place after the land pooling process for the new campus in Kizhakkambalam is finalized. “We remain hopeful that the Metro extension project will advance alongside the land pooling efforts,” he added.
Reports indicate that the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has identified vacant plots, including uncultivated paddy fields opposite Wonderla Amusement Park, for the Infopark Phase III campus, located about 2 km from the Phase II campus.
The total length of the Phase II line is planned to be 11.2 km, and the extension will facilitate Metro connectivity to the Phase II campus of Infopark.
