THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Monday that the LDF government has successfully constructed five lakh houses under the LIFE Mission, a significant milestone towards eradicating homelessness in Kerala.
In a Facebook update, Vijayan explained that the housing initiative was started in 2016 to provide secure homes for the homeless throughout the state.
“The LIFE Mission, initiated by the LDF government in 2016 to make Kerala homelessness-free, has now seen the completion of five lakh homes,” he mentioned.
The Chief Minister revealed that a state-level celebration to commemorate this achievement is scheduled for February 24 in Thiruvananthapuram. He also noted that approximately Rs 20,831.60 crore has been allocated to the project up to February 2026.
Highlighting the initiative’s scale, Vijayan stated that the scheme offers financial aid of Rs 4 lakh to general families and Rs 6 lakh to Scheduled Tribe families for house construction.
“The LIFE Mission has become a model for efficiency and inclusiveness across the nation,” the Chief Minister remarked, calling it a fundamental aspect of the LDF government’s developmental agenda.
Vijayan emphasized the importance of collective efforts to create a better society, stating, “Let us advance together to build a New Kerala where everyone enjoys happiness and dignity.” The LIFE Mission is a flagship welfare program of the LDF government, significantly impacting Kerala’s housing sector.
