HUBBALLI: A delegation of state legislators and officials is visiting Gujarat to assess the planning and execution of town planning schemes currently in place there.
The team includes Hubballi-Dharwad East MLA Prasad Abbayya, Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA Arvind Bellad, Hubballi-Dharwad Central MLA Mahesh Tenginakai, HDUDA president Shakir Sanadi, among others. Their objective is to learn from Gujarat’s successful implementation.
The state government dispatched the team on Tuesday for a two-day exploration to gather information on the town planning frameworks that have been recently introduced in Gujarat.
Shakir Sanadi, president of the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority, communicated with TOI from Gujarat, stating that the main focus of their visit is to evaluate how Gujarat’s town planning schemes contribute to the state’s overall growth. Gujarat stands out for its effective and systematic infrastructure development through these planning initiatives.
In accordance with governmental directions, the team is assessing Gujarat’s strategies and implementations in urban planning, with the goal of enhancing town planning initiatives in major cities throughout Karnataka.
Additionally, they plan to implement a pilot town planning scheme on a 200 to 500-acre parcel of land in Hubballi-Dharwad. This initiative aims to showcase urban growth and development, incorporating infrastructure such as roads, schools, hospitals, and both residential and commercial spaces. Cooperation from local farmers and residents will be essential, and following this, the project will be submitted to the state government for approval. This study will inform the development of similar town planning schemes for future urban growth.
All legislators and officials will compile a comprehensive report for the government following their study of Gujarat’s town planning systems.
On Tuesday, they toured Gift City, engaged in a presentation session, met with the Principal Secretary of Urban Development, and interacted with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority to discuss town planning strategies. Their field visit included stops at Vaishno Devi Circle and Sarkhej Gandhinagar to observe successful implementations of town planning.
On Wednesday, the delegation is scheduled to meet DJ Jadeja, the chief town planner of Gujarat, visit Adani Shantigram Township, and hold discussions with Deepa Dave, the manager of urban planning and city planning development. They will conclude their study tour on Wednesday evening before returning to the state. Post-Gujarat visit, they intend to chart their plans for urban growth and township development alongside local farmers and communities.
