JAIPUR: In response to the tragic building collapse that resulted in two fatalities on Saturday, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H) has taken decisive action against deteriorating buildings within the Walled City. On Sunday, eviction notices were served to 23 property owners in the Kishanpole zone.
These owners have been ordered to vacate their unsafe premises immediately, with clear warnings that failure to comply could lead to legal consequences and demolition of their structures. In a specific incident at Subhash Chowk, the JMC-H’s engineering team demolished a severely weakened section of a building to avert potential accidents on Sunday.
Prioritizing public safety, the administration has made announcements in various wards, advising residents to avoid structurally compromised buildings and to report any such findings to the authorities. Consequently, numerous residents began vacating unsafe locations. For those lacking alternative accommodations, the corporation has arranged temporary housing facilities.
JMC-H commissioner Nidhi Patel stated, “We have directed additional chief engineer Shravan Verma to re-inspect all identified dilapidated structures and provide a comprehensive report within two days.”
In her appeal to the public, Patel remarked, “Residents should avoid these buildings and promptly inform municipal authorities about any structurally unsafe structures in their vicinity. The Kishanpole zone has the highest concentration of identified unsafe buildings, prompting our officers to conduct regular inspections and encouraging public reporting of unsafe conditions.”
