JAIPUR: Residents Protest Over Housing Uncertainty

Nearly 2,000 residents from 87 colonies in the Sanganer area gathered for a protest march on Sunday, voicing their concerns regarding the future of their homes. This demonstration temporarily disrupted traffic on Tonk Road for approximately four hours.

Many of these families have lived in the colonies for years, having purchased plots through registered cooperative societies and constructed homes with bank loans. Essential services, including water supply, electricity, roads, and sewer lines, have been established in the area over time.

However, the situation has changed as the land was later included in an acquisition process by the housing board, leaving residents anxious about the legal status of their homes. According to local leaders, around 15,000 houses have already been built in these colonies.

Members of the Niyaman Hetu Sangharsh Samiti reported that they have given the state government a 15-day ultimatum to find a solution, but no action has been taken. The protest aimed to highlight the issue and demand immediate government intervention.

Committee President Raghunandan Singh Hada stated, “We have made numerous appeals to the government, including meetings with the Chief Minister and various authorities. Unfortunately, there has been no response, and even after our ultimatum, no affirmative steps were taken.” He urged the government to present a strong case in court and consider options like legislation, a cabinet meeting, or retracting the land acquisition to regularize the colonies.

Residents warned that without prompt action, their agitation would escalate, as the matter involves the security and homes of thousands.
