INDORE: A case has been registered in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, regarding an alleged land registry scam estimated at ₹100 crore, based on current market values of certain plots and properties, as stated by a police official on Monday.
The district administration established a five-member inquiry panel after uncovering numerous suspicious documents in the record room of the state registration department. This led to the filing of an FIR under sections 420 (cheating) and 467 (forgery of documents) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified individuals, following the panel’s report.
“The FIR was filed at Pandrinath police station late Sunday night upon the complaint of a registration department official. Efforts are underway to identify the culprits,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Dishesh Agrawal informed PTI.
According to another official, numerous registry documents related to various properties were found in the record room, which did not correspond with the details of the actual buyers and sellers.
“Significantly, the fingerprints of sellers were absent from the official registers. Currently, documents related to 18 properties, including residential plots, commercial buildings, and agricultural land, are being scrutinized. These properties are valued at approximately ₹100 crore based on current market rates,” the official added.
The documents in question date back from 1959 to 2000.
Some employees of the registration department and Indore Municipal Corporation are currently under investigation in connection with the case.
