INDORE: Sixteen homes in the Piliyakhal area are set to be demolished next week to make way for a proposed underground Metro station near Bada Ganpati.

The rehabilitation process for the residents of Bada Ganpati is progressing rapidly as the project unfolds. Senior administrative officials reported that the Metro management has suggested relocating the affected families to flats constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the Tapti Complex at Rangwasa. A sum of Rs 1.29 crore has been deposited with the district administration for the allotment of flats to the 16 families currently residing in the area.

Although official records identify 16 families, residents assert that there are actually 28 families living in the area. Those affected, who hold residential leases through the Rajiv Gandhi Ashray Mission, are demanding individual flats for each of the 28 families. Many residents work as daily wage laborers and porters and are worried that the distance to Rangwasa will complicate their daily commutes and make school transportation for their children difficult.

Affected residents have voiced concerns about relocating to Rangwasa, fearing it will disrupt their children’s education, as many are enrolled in private schools in Bada Ganpati and Kalani Nagar.

In response, SDM Nidhi Verma indicated that the displacement process is nearing completion. She reassured families that the administration would assist with school admissions for children under the RTE scheme in institutions near Rangwasa to prevent any interruptions to their education. The allotment process for the flats is expected to be finalized soon by both the civic body and Metro management.

Despite these assurances, residents approached collector Shivam Verma on Monday, urging the government to resettle them closer to their current homes. They also informed the collector about a potential plot of land, which Verma deemed too small for apartment construction.
