Illegal Colonies, Kiosks Removed for Plot Sales in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has executed a demolition and sealing operation aimed at unauthorized structures in urban areas throughout the city.

During the operation carried out on Friday, four unauthorized colonies covering 9.5 acres, 18 boundary walls, one under-construction building, two Pota cabins utilized for selling plots, and an entire network of illegally laid CC roads were demolished.

Additionally, in the licensed colony of Celebrity Homes in Palam Vihar, an illegally constructed departmental store—Fresh Mart—located in the stilt area was sealed. Officials also demolished a 7-acre illegal colony in Carterpuri a day prior, dismantling 12 DPCs, five boundary walls, and multiple commercial structures.

On August 6, two illegal colonies in Mubarikpur (1 acre) and Iqbalpur (2 acres) were also cleared. The operations were conducted with police support under the jurisdictions of Palam Vihar and Farrukhnagar, signaling a strict stance against unauthorized structures.

Meanwhile, DTCP officials have noted a rising trend of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) misusing their authority for illegal constructions in common areas of housing societies. These unauthorized structures are often created for personal, religious, or social purposes, violating the Haryana Apartment Ownership Act and building regulations. “Our office has received numerous complaints from various societies where RWA boards are actively engaged in illegal constructions,” stated a senior official. “Such actions result in legal issues, disputes among residents, and the misuse of shared property.”

The matter has now been escalated to the deputy commissioner’s task force for further discussion. Authorities are also considering involving the district societies group to implement stricter oversight.

A significant proposal under consideration is to appoint administrators in RWAs that are repeatedly found in violation of norms. “If RWAs persist in misusing their powers and promoting encroachments, we may be compelled to regulate their activities through appointed administrators,” the official cautioned.
