HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has reclaimed 11 acres of government and public-use land in the city, following reports of encroachments. Officials estimate the market value of the reclaimed land to be approximately Rs 1,650 crore.

Among this, two acres in Kondapur have been designated for a public park. This area is part of the Central Park Colony layout established in 1998. Although the municipal authorities had previously designated this space and erected a boundary, residents reported ongoing attempts by individuals to encroach on the land and faced intimidation when they resisted.

“Responding to complaints made through our grievance platform, HYDRAA, along with revenue and GHMC officials, inspected the site and confirmed its designation as park land. We have removed temporary structures and installed fencing around the two-acre area, along with signboards indicating its intended use,” stated HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath.

In a related case, authorities have investigated encroachment issues concerning nine acres of land in Pragathi Nagar, near Ambir Lake, under Kukatpally mandal. This land includes five acres reserved for a cremation ground and four acres for a dumping yard. After verification with relevant government departments, the land’s designation for these public purposes was confirmed.

Fencing has been erected around this nine-acre area, with signboards marking its designated uses. “Residents have reported raising multiple complaints in the past regarding alleged encroachments. The recent investigation has, for the time being, addressed the issue of unauthorized occupation,” Ranganath added.
