Hubballi-Dharwad body expands LPA in twin cities

HUBBALLI: The Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (Huda) has expanded its Local Planning Area (LPA) from 407 square kilometers to 757 square kilometers by adding 46 new villages to its jurisdiction.

The state government has approved Huda’s proposal to extend the LPA by integrating these additional villages, which consist of 27 from Dharwad taluk, one from Hubballi Urban taluk, 12 from Hubballi Rural, and six from Kalghatagi taluk.

Huda President Shakir Sanadi stated that with these inclusions, the total number of villages within Huda limits has now reached 92. All the newly included villages will receive essential services such as improved roads, parks, safe drinking water, and other amenities similar to those in the city wards. The management of these villages will be under Gram Panchayats as per existing regulations, and a meeting will be convened soon with gram panchayat representatives to address development concerns in the newly included areas alongside the ZP CEO.

He noted that previously, no villages from Kalghatagi were part of the LPA, but now six villages have been added from that taluk.

The primary aim of expanding the LPA is to mitigate illegal layouts and control the disorganized growth of villages. This initiative will facilitate the systematic development of industrial, commercial, and residential zones to accommodate the increasing population in the twin cities over the next two decades. It will also promote integrated infrastructure development in the newly incorporated villages. Additionally, this expansion will enhance land property values, benefiting farmers as demand for their lands increases post-inclusion in Huda.

Huda Commissioner Santoshkumar Biradar mentioned that a new master plan for 2041 is currently in preparation, covering the entire 702-square-kilometer area for future development. Over the next two decades, all areas will fall under Huda’s jurisdiction. This process involves comprehensive surveys and public engagement, with feedback sought from gram panchayats and the local community to ensure transparency in the master plan’s formulation.

“We are dedicated to creating a scientifically sound town planning approach to transform Hubballi-Dharwad into a well-planned urban area in the coming years,” said Sanadi.
