Haryana’s Wazirabad Tehsil Faces Probe Ahead of Property Registry Launch

GURUGRAM: Allegations of widespread irregularities have emerged in Wazirabad tehsil just prior to the shift to an online property registration system, prompting the deputy commissioner to initiate an inquiry. “The Badshahpur sub-divisional magistrate has been instructed to investigate and provide a report promptly,” stated a senior official.

SDM Sanjeev Kumar remarked, “The investigation is underway. We have requested all relevant records from the tehsil administration.” Sources indicate that several property deeds were manually registered on October 31—the final day before the complete transition to the online system—despite existing restrictions on certain properties and builders.

Officials reported that numerous transactions amounting to lakhs were allegedly conducted in violation of orders issued by the Department of Town and Country Planning.

It has come to light that registrations associated with Ansal Buildwell, whose license has been suspended since 2022, were processed.

The builder has not renewed its license and is in arrears for crores in external development charges (EDC), electricity infrastructure dues, and transfer fees.

In May 2022, the DTCP had instructed all tehsils and district administration to withhold Ansal Buildwell’s conveyance deeds. However, more than a dozen registries were allegedly approved in Sushant Lok Phases 2 and 3 of Sector 57, seemingly with the collaboration of local revenue officials.

Similar discrepancies are suspected in documents affiliated with Ireo, another prominent builder.

Sources noted that the tehsil also processed powers of attorney for individuals who are not blood relatives—a practice explicitly banned in Gurgaon district.

These alleged violations have not only gone against administrative orders but also resulted in significant revenue losses for the government.

Meanwhile, residents continue to experience delays in obtaining their documents. Many are still frequenting the tehsil office to collect paperwork registered on October 31. Complaints about slow sign-offs and unresponsive staff have added to public frustration.

The situation in Wazirabad unfolds amid ongoing investigations into irregularities in other tehsils.

Earlier this year, an inquiry into Farrukhnagar tehsil revealed 254 illegal registries between April and August. Allegations included misrepresenting agricultural lands as urban plots and executing several registrations with fake or incomplete NOCs. The probe, triggered by an RTI complaint from activist Ramesh Yadav, exposed similar violations in Badshahpur and Manesar.
