Gurugram’s Malibu Towne Club Closed, Residents Want Reopening

GURUGRAM: Residents of Malibu Towne are urging the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to lift the seal on Malibu Towne Country Club, which has been closed for nearly two years due to compliance issues from planning authorities.

The 204-acre township, established in the mid-1990s in Sector 50, relied on the club for amenities such as a swimming pool, gardens, and spaces for community events—facilities residents have greatly missed since the closure.

Vijay Shiv Nath, chairman of the Malibu RWA Federation, explained that the club was closed after the authorities identified several deficiencies and canceled the builder’s township license. Malibu Estate Pvt Ltd was instructed to address these issues and renew its license before applying for an occupation certificate (OC).

“The builder has completed the necessary rectifications and received the renewed township license from DTCP Chandigarh on January 9, 2026. The application for the OC has been submitted to the district town planner (DTP),” Nath stated.

Recently, representatives from the RWA and local councillor Kuldeep Yadav presented to the DTP, requesting expedited approval to reopen the club. “Officials expressed their willingness to assist and indicated that the OC may be granted soon,” Nath said. Residents believe that reopening the club would restore important community and recreational spaces that have been inaccessible for almost two years.

The compliance issues for the township date back to 2020 when the DTCP revoked its completion certificate for failing to develop community sites by the November 2020 deadline. Out of the 16 approved community sites, only 11 were built in accordance with regulations.

Malibu Towne, home to over 10,000 residents, has also faced accusations of violations, including unauthorized construction in green belt areas, development without necessary environmental clearances, and deviations from approved plans. In 2020, a case was filed against the developers and project directors following a complaint from the DTP regarding multiple regulatory breaches. Gurgaon police registered the case after finding the developer’s responses to notices unsatisfactory.
