Gurugram: Three Towers Brought Down at Chintels Paradiso

GURUGRAM: A review meeting of the internal committee for Chintels Paradiso in Sector 109 took place at the DC office on Wednesday. Officials discussed the current status of the demolition efforts at the site, but the proceedings were kept private.

A senior official mentioned that neither the builder nor the president of the resident welfare association (RWA) were invited to the meeting, which only covered updates.

Rakesh Hooda, president of the Chintels Paradiso RWA, stated they were excluded from the meeting and had not received any minutes regarding the discussion.

Officials from the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) reported that three towers, which started demolition in January, are now demolished, with the fourth nearing completion. Demolition of Tower D is anticipated for next week, paving the way for potential reconstruction soon.

Following a partial building collapse at Chintels Paradiso that resulted in the deaths of two women on February 10, 2022, the district administration allowed the developer to begin demolition of six towers—D, E, F, G, H, and J—deemed unsafe after structural audits by IIT Delhi in 2023 and 2024.

However, owners of towers A, B, and C have secured a stay against their demolition, with the issue currently in the Supreme Court’s hands. An inspection of the Chintels complex was conducted to verify compliance with safety regulations, and the developer was instructed to expedite the demolition process, as noted by District Town Planner (Enforcement) Amit Madholia.

JN Yadav, vice president of Chintels, commented that the demolition is proceeding with utmost caution.

Rakesh Hooda expressed concerns that the demolition is unlikely to finish this year, leaving flat owners in distress due to halted rent payments previously mandated by the Supreme Court.

Regarding rent issues, Yadav stated that the continued delays and uncertain outcomes from the Supreme Court make indefinite rent payments impractical.
