GURUGRAM: The land acquisition process for the Gurgaon Metro project has progressed, with the initial meeting of the Land Purchase Committee (LPC) chaired by Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar.

The committee, established under Haryana’s policy for private land acquisition via mutual consent, evaluated the land requirements submitted by GMRL.

During the meeting, the DC directed the land acquisition officer to carry out a joint inspection and prioritize ownership verification for land identified for corridor-1. “This process is expected to take about a week, after which the next LPC meeting will be scheduled for February 11,” an official noted.

Additionally, the deputy commissioner requested GMRL submit land information for corridor-2 so notifications for both corridors can be issued concurrently. GMRL officials indicated that land acquisition notifications will adhere to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The authority plans to acquire land based on higher compensation norms per the new policy, anticipating that over 30 families will be affected and more than 100 structures may need to be acquired.

A plot assigned by HSVP in Sector 9 falls along the route where construction has already kicked off. Several homes in Sector 4 are also situated along the corridor, and HSVP has issued notices to two plot owners regarding the acquisition.

Meanwhile, a GMDA officer reported a survey revealing 38 unauthorized constructions in Sector 4 and another 83 in surrounding areas. Officials stated that demolition will commence once the land acquisition process is initiated.

The nine-member LPC, formed in January under the oversight of the deputy commissioner, includes the additional CEO of GMDA, the joint commissioner of MCG, the land acquisition officer, the district town planner, the district revenue officer, GMRL directors for finance and project planning, and executive engineers from GMDA, the irrigation department, and PWD.

Officers from the agriculture and forest departments may be invited as needed for land valuation and asset assessment.
