Gurugram: Homebuyers protest as MRG Meridian flats remain undelivered

GURUGRAM: Homebuyers of the MRG Meridian project in Sector 89 held a protest, demanding timely possession of their long-delayed flats. The allottees, who participated in a draw on February 18, 2019, reported that the project received environmental clearance in October 2019 and was originally promised for possession by September 2023.

Despite numerous follow-ups, the builder has not delivered the homes, resulting in a two-year delay. Protesters expressed that the builder’s recent assertion of having applied for an occupation certificate (OC) offers little comfort as families struggle with financial strain from the extended wait.

“The builder’s claim of applying for an OC doesn’t change our reality. We are stuck paying rent and EMIs at the same time. This is sheer harassment,” said one protesting allottee.

Many families reported depleting their savings and taking out loans in anticipation of receiving possession in 2023. The ongoing delay has left them both financially and emotionally exhausted. Protesters have called on the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (HRERA) to intervene, ensure accountability, and expedite the possession process. The developer has not provided a revised timeline for handover despite multiple inquiries. The allottees have warned that if delays continue, they will escalate their protests and seek legal recourse.

A media spokesperson from MRG World stated, “The project has demanded our full commitment. While there have been periodic delays due to NGT bans, construction work is now fully complete with no pending civil tasks.”
