GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat’s revenue from stamp duty and registration fees surged by 30% year-on-year, reaching Rs 19,102.58 crore in 2025-26, an increase of nearly Rs 4,400 crore from Rs 14,706 crore in 2024-25, as per official statistics.
During the financial year that ended on March 31, 2026, 18.95 lakh property documents were registered, compared to 18.77 lakh the previous year. This slight uptick in registrations, along with significant revenue growth, indicates that the registered properties had a higher value than in the prior year.
Sources in the real estate sector and officials highlighted that the increase is partly due to the rise in jantri rates. “The government doubled the jantri rates in the 2023-24 financial year, which accounts for the modest growth in property document registrations, while the income from stamp duty and registration fees in the concluded fiscal year has witnessed a considerable increase,” stated a government official.
The revenue collection for 2025-26 was close to the state’s target of Rs 19,800 crore.
Ahmedabad district led the way in property registrations, generating the highest revenue. The district recorded 3,76,859 property documents, bringing in Rs 4,379.51 crore from stamp duty and registration fees.
Surat followed with 2,89,544 registrations, then Rajkot with 1,54,211, Vadodara with 1,32,475, and Gandhinagar with 1,04,175. On the other hand, Dang district reported the least number of registrations at only 43.
Representatives from the real estate industry noted that these figures reflect sustained sector demand. Tejas Joshi, president of CREDAI Gujarat, mentioned that Gujarat’s real estate market has experienced robust demand in recent years, with numerous projects completed and sale deeds executed. He also highlighted several high-value land transactions following the Commonwealth Games announcement.
Joshi noted ongoing strong demand across residential, commercial, and industrial segments, suggesting that stamp duty and registration fee collections are likely to remain healthy.
However, real estate experts pointed out that many sale deeds registered in 2025-26 were associated with transactions concluded in previous years. Recent GujRERA data indicated that new project registrations in the state have dropped to their lowest since the Covid-19 pandemic.
