GANDHINAGAR | AHMEDABAD: The revenue generated by the Gujarat government from stamp duty and registration fees saw a notable 7% rise during the April-December 2025 period, increasing from ₹12,821 crore in 2024 to ₹13,699 crore in the initial nine months of the current financial year.
Official sources indicate that income from these sources, driven by property registrations, is anticipated to exceed the budgetary target of ₹19,800 crore for the financial year 2025-26. “The increase in revenue is attributed to a rise in property transaction values. We expect total revenue for the financial year to surpass the budget estimate,” sources mentioned.
Insights from the real estate sector suggest that the state government’s 100% hike in jantri rates in 2023 has been absorbed by the market, positively impacting government revenue from stamp duties and registration fees. Earlier, Gujarat amassed ₹14,706 crore in stamp duty and registration fees for the 2024-25 financial year, up from ₹13,731 crore in 2023-24.
Various cities have reported a surge in land deals contributing significantly to stamp duty revenue. Tejas Joshi, President of CREDAI Gujarat, commented, “Real estate demand has remained strong since 2021, with numerous projects concluding and sale deeds processed. Major land deals this year have significantly boosted stamp duty income.”
Joshi further noted that the RBI’s repo rate cuts have made home loans more affordable, leading to increased demand for ready-to-move residential projects, especially following Navratri.
Additionally, industry experts believe the announcement that Ahmedabad will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 has elevated sentiment within the real estate sector.
A leading developer stated, “The state government is expected to introduce a revised scientific jantri in 2026. As a result, many individuals will likely expedite property transactions before the fiscal year ends, further enhancing stamp duty revenues.”
