Greater Noida Authority Fines Builder for Dirty Water Tank

NOIDA: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has collected water samples from the SKA Divya Towers Society in Sector 16, Greater Noida West, following reports from residents about illnesses due to suspected water contamination.

On Wednesday, health department teams visited the society to carry out checks and set up a medical camp, as several residents reported stomach ailments, vomiting, and fever. However, only a small number attended the examinations, with only 16 residents showing up. “Our inspection team found few patients at the camp. We have documented the complaints and will take further actions based on the water testing results,” said Sachin, superintendent of the Community Health Centre (CHC) Bisrakh.

During the assessment, officials discovered dirt in the water tanks and high TDS levels. “Given the seriousness of the contaminated water supply, we have imposed a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh on the builder,” stated Rajesh Kumar, a senior manager at GNIDA.

Residents reported that the issue had been a topic of discussion in the society for months, with many families opting to use bottled or filtered water for their daily needs.

“Approximately 100 residents have voiced concerns about the poor water quality in various community groups over the past months. Many of us have experienced recurring stomach infections, likely due to the contaminated water,” a resident mentioned.

Pankaj, another community member, added, “The water often looks cloudy and has a foul smell. Despite raising multiple complaints with the maintenance team, no lasting measures have been taken. This situation is particularly unsafe for children and the elderly. We rely on bottled water now. Fortunately, health and authority officials visited the society on Wednesday to address the issue.”
