Govt Plans AI-Driven Township in Bidadi to Ease Bengaluru’s Congestion

BENGALURU: The government announced an ambitious initiative on Thursday to launch the Greater Bengaluru Innovation and Tech City (GBIT), touted as India’s first and largest AI-driven township, located in Bidadi, approximately 30km from Bengaluru.

The project aims to alleviate pressure on Bengaluru by redistributing population and economic activities through sustainable development.

GBIT will feature an integrated ecosystem comprising residential, commercial, and social spaces, with a central business district (CBD) built to global standards, designed to attract investment and generate large-scale employment across various sectors, including technology and services.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated, “GBIT will embody the aspirations of a new generation, and we are committed to shaping their future with principles of inclusion, sustainability, and dignity.”

According to the government, GBIT will adopt a Work-Live-Play model. The residential areas will be complemented by schools, hospitals, green parks, and entertainment venues, while leisure amenities will include rejuvenated lakes, parks, cultural spaces, and sports infrastructure, such as an international cricket stadium and Olympic-standard training facilities.

Connectivity is a key focus, with direct access to National Highways 275 and 209, proximity to Bidadi railway station, the proposed suburban rail, and integration with Metro Phase 3 and the airport corridor.

The project emphasizes sustainability through a “zero-carbon, zero-waste, zero-traffic” approach, extensive green buffers, and the use of digital twin technology for predictive planning and efficient governance. Additionally, it aims to rejuvenate the Byramangala lake.

Another significant aspect of the initiative is the “land owner as partner” model, which recognizes farmers as stakeholders. Villages within the development area will maintain their cultural identity, while landowners will be offered developed plots or fair monetary compensation.

The government believes that GBIT will represent a forward-looking vision for Bengaluru’s future, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that enriches lives and promotes inclusive development. The initiative aims to redefine holistic urban living and significantly contribute to the region’s prosperity and growth.
